A Humble Harvest

As in other parts of the country, this drought-ridden summer has been a devastating one here in Nod.....

There will be few crops to take in.

Few leaves left to turn and dance on autumn winds.

No late-September lawn mowings.

No third crop hay.

 Irreversible losses.

It is certain to be a humble harvest.

For my faithful followers, this is also a humble little fall giveaway.  Miss October 31st.  I realize she is quite "prim" and may not appeal to all of my followers.  For that, I apologize.  But if she appeals to you, let me know in your comment and I will put your name in for a chance to adopt her.  (And I will not feel badly if she's not to your liking....)  I'm truly sorry I didn't have the time for anything hand-did....I did not make her....in fact, I'm not positive she is even handmade....I purchased her at my favorite (i.e., the only) prim shop in these parts this past weekend.
This is for current followers only please, and I ask that you do NOT post this on your blogs, etc.  Yes, it is open to my followers outside of the US.
I will leave entries open until September 21st and draw a winner sometime after that date.  I will, however, ask your patience in advance in announcing a winner and in mailing, as the prior week will be a chaotic one here in the nest.  But rest assured, she will be to you before All Hallow's Eve.

Hi Robin ~
Woo hoo. I'm first! I'm usually not first at anything ... grin.
Anywho, I promise if I am chosen to give Miss October 31st a very good home!
My. The drought looks much worse in Nod than Ohio, but then again, I'm not a farmer, so not sure if it's that bad on the farms.
Hugs to you :)
Lauren
Oh! Someone beat me to it so maybe I'm #2?

Robin, this dry summer has devastated so many farmers. Our lawn is full of brown dead patches but that is hardly the same as people whose incomes depend on the weather. (but I did save money not having to pay the lawn man so often)
Your giveaway is generous. I hate to say this but......I think she would creep me out in my house. For some reason I'm not sure she won't come alive in the night......(seriously). LOL

Sorry to hear that it has been such a dry summer - we know drought all too well here in Australia. Don't worry, the rains will come eventually. Our last drought in Victoria finally broke last year after 11 years!

Your prim doll is lovely but not quite suited to my decor, so please do not count me in your giveaway, I just wanted to say how nice she is.

WOW - and I thought our drought conditions where bad. I sure do feel for your farmers and us too - when the price increases hit the grocery store later this year. We didn't mow our yard in June or July and only a couple times at the end of August.

I personally LOVE the pumpkin doll and would love to add her to my prim decor - thanks for the giveaway. Hope all goes well in the next few weeks for you.

Love the prim pumpkin...please add my name to the pot. How sad to see the devastation caused by lack of rain in one place, and the flooding caused by too much rain in another. What a Summer this has been! Hope all is well with you and yours.
Take care,
Robyn

Looks like your part of the woods is getting the same kind of drought we are. So much devastation.
Miss October is just prim perfect! Such a nice giveaway.

Hi Robin- I saw a program a few nights ago about the devastated farms and how many farmers are now turning their cattle into the cornfields that are beyond saving. They are hoping to keep the cattle fed a bit longer with the cornfields before they have to seel them off. So sad. Farmers in western Pa., while also in dire straits, are still hanging in there--we got enough rain to somewhat revive some crops. Farming is a difficult road anywhere in the country. I love your little prim dolly and think she would make a suitable bride for my handsome skelly doll! I would love to be included in your generous giveaway!!--Jan

Those photos are so sad. I hope there is a wet fall and winter to put some moisture back. What a sweet offer and thank you, but please don't include me. She reminds me of myself in the dental chair, clenching my teeth. I still have surgery coming up!

Summer has been a rough one on so many of the farmers and will dwindle down to all us consumers I am certain. So sad. Our garden was so pitiful this year. Sure didn't fill the cupboards and freezer. But life goes on and God will provide. He never said it would be easy. I love your Miss October. I bet she would love to come South where the winters are mild and fall is just wonderful. Let her come over and visit the blog. Bet she would just love Darbee Rae too!! Please sneek my name in the pot. Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend.

Robin, so sorry about the drought in your area. It isn't much better here in Michigan. It's been a struggle all summer keeping everything watered. I feel so sad for the farmers. I love your prim Ms. October 31st and would love to be entered in your generous giveaway. She's perfectly prim. thanks so much, praying for rain

So sorry about the droughts. We are still having 100 degree plus weather here in Northern Cali. The fires are all around and we have to stay inside some days for the smoke is so thick. Today was a good day we were outside for a barbecue at our sons and it wasn't too bad. I would love to be entered into your giveaway, Thanks so much Blessings~Sara

It has been a hard summer - for you drought and for us in the UK not enough sun and too much rain - nothing much has come to fruition. I feel so bad for the farmers.

Thank you so much Robin for offering such a wonderful prim doll. I'd be thrilled to own her so please put my name in the pot!
Best wishes
Christine

Nod looks almost as bad as it does here in the bowels of hell. We went for at least 6 weeks this summer with no rain & high temps. This past weekend it rained straight on through from Friday till late yesterday afternoon. I wouldn't be surprised if there is flooding in town which always happens with a big rain. I will find out later when we head to Lexington. I'm rambling. Anyway, very nice & thoughtful giveaway but don't include me. Best of luck to all who enter!

Yes, that was a humbling post...really shakes you up to see what others in the country have had to endure this summer. My prayers go out to all the farmers and laborers whose livelihood depends on the harvest.
Please enter me for a chance to win the delightful doll.
Thank you for your generosity :)

Robin, So sad to loose so much in crops, but beauty still remains in your photos, the farmers here were devastated for the second year now.

My grandpa used to say the soil just needs to rest this year, oh how I loved going to his farm and helping.

Love Miss October and would love to be entered
Have a wonderful day

Hi Robin,
Oh my goodness I'm so in awe at the bad crops this year. When we were in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago the corn is GORGEOUS...and they said they had DROUGHT...I don't think so, not like ours in the midwest anyway...very sad and praying for the farmers...and us as it falls down the line to everyone.

I WOULD LOVE TO ADOPT THIS ADORABLE PUMPKIN LADY! She will go just beautifully in my home...there's nothing ugly about her!

Blessings,
Karen

My heart breaks at all this sad devastation. We are having forest fires in the mountains above Glendora, CA. All our children were born there. After the fires comes the rain and mud slides. It just seems that nature can be very cruel. We now live at a higher elevation (3000 ft) above Glendora, in the High Desert with not much to burn. All our children have scattered except for Sandy, as she will always be with is ... God willing.

Sandy & I love the 'Pumpkin Lady'. We would love to be included in the drawing.

Have a Blessed Day,
Barb & Sandy

Miss October 31 appeals to me...right down to her blue feet! I have been reading your blog for a long time through Google Reader but just made it "official". The crop photos are so sad. I hope the land of Nod and the rest of the midwest recover next year.

Woman Seeking Center said...

Your images are painfully familiar Crow. It is the same here with the drought - tho the blow of the hardship these losses bring is not lessened with it being shared by so many..... It's difficult to know how many states, fields & lives will be harmed and plowed under (literally) this fall.

Corn is dessicated on the stalk, my apples are no larger than golf balls (tho the poor things ripen as if they defy reality still!) Many of the counties in these parts have been granted crop disaster assistance. Helpful of course but no replacement for a good season or for small farms/personal stock growers.

Still we keep saying, each to the other, we suffer no wildfire, flood, mudslide, tornado nor hurricane. Roof above intact, basement below dry, barns standing ~ luck is found at times in the lesser scope of ones disaster.

And yet I hope beyond hope for next year to bring sanity to nature at least (and for the world overall if I had my druthers).

And yes of course (!) the old girl and I would love a chance at Mz. Pumpking :-)

Hugs, Issy

The drought is devestating! It is so sad..
We had a terrible drought in Texas last summer, no hay, had to sell 1/2 our cattle herd, rivers and ponds dried up. But this year, it is much better! Trees and shrubs I thought had died, came back to life. I am hoping that rain comes your way soon!
I would love to have that sweet little pumkpin head!

Hi Robin; sorry to see you've had the drought so bad there, too. We finally received rain last week and it was a good, steady one, but still too late for many bushes, trees and the corn. I'd love a chance to win anything you make or purchase, but especially something Halloween themed! ~Roberta

Hi Robin. So very sorry your area is having a drought. :( We've been very fortunate this summer in Western PA - we've had a lot of rain - in fact too much some would say. Lots of flooded basements.
I would LOVE to adopt this beautiful prim Miss October. I love anything prim and extreme prim.
Thank you for the opportunity.

Looking at your pics makes me sad :( It was super dry in Illinois when I was there in July. Hubby says they've received some rain since then but still the crops were ruined for the most part. I met up with a gal and her kids from Wisconsin and she said it was pretty dry where she lived.
Love the little Pumpkin doll and hope you'll enter me in your drawing.

The drought has hit us very hard as well...no rain and hot temps for nearly two months. The soybeans are brown, the corn is stunted and brown...and my garden looks terrible, despite watering. I know the midwest is even worse off than central New York State. :-(
I'm so far behind on blog reading, since we've had company non-stop for nearly a month.
I'd love to be entered to win your cute pumpkin gal. I think she adorable! Thanks for the chance Robin.
