Bonjour mes Primmies!
I have a confession to make....
I have a not-so-secret love....
....Of all things French....
I love French food, the French language, French farmhouses and French farmhouse style....old French books, French patisserie (a food group in and of itself), French linens, French wine, French textiles, French enamelware....(French fries, not so much....)
In many respects, it's in my blood. See, my mother (yep, the same one with the witch blood running through her veins) has French blood in her too. Her father's ancestors originated in Niort, France. In the late 1700's/early 1800's, several brothers immigrated to Chateauguay (Quebec), Canada. They (or some of them) emigrated from there to the Land of Nod. (Notice how smoothly I worked in that grammar lesson regarding the difference between "emigrate" and "immigrate"??? It was more fun than trying to figure out why ANYONE would want to relocate to Nod....)
But I digress....back to my love of things French....
I do, I do, I do (not to be confused with "adieu") LOVE things French - so you can only imagine how tickled I was to have won these wonderful vintage French medals from Bliss Farm Antiques:
Aren't they tres cool??? An incredible variety - and such amazing detail....My favorite, though, has to be this one:

The apparition at Lourdes...my friend and I were just talking about that last fall! The pic of medals caught my eye right away Robin...my aunt used to tuck a medal in my hand to keep me safe in travel (St. Christopher) and just about everything else LOL! I have french blood via Quebec also on both sides. One of my bucket destinations is Lake Memphremagog VT where I think we invaded the border, if for nothing else but to say been to a place called Memphremagog! Love your new header ~*~Lisa

Bonjour! But pardon moi......no french fries? Seriously? How about when they are covered in gravy and cheese? Under the broiler with some mozzarella and ranch dressing?

I had to laugh most don't like dishes either..so glad all I have to do is take my dishpan full in the house and Peg washes them with no complaints...Gotta love my dishwasher..hehe!

Although I cannot speak a word of French, somewhere down the heritage line there was a Count Husson, which is my maiden name. My great-grandparents left France during the French Revolution..and I believe it was to literally save their necks. They also came to Canada via Quebec, but emigrated to Michigan's Thumb. Love your medals! If you ever want to get rid of that 1958 one..that's the year I was born and will take it off your hands for you. :o) Hope you had a great Valentine's...I'm so far behind in my blog reading, that I may get done when Easter arrives. ReplyDeleteIls sont beaux! (They are beautiful!) Those intricate details really deserve to be maintained. An easy way to clean them is to soak them in a medal cleaner for ten minutes. It should remove the grime and dirt stuck onto it. After, gently scrub the medal to make sure the dirt will come off. And lastly, dip a cotton swab from the paste made from baking soda and medal cleaner and gently rub it onto the medals. Rinse it off through running water and pat dry. And that should help regain your medals’ beauty. :)
