In the Quiet Places.....

In the quiet places of this Memorial Day, please honor those who pay, and have paid, the ultimate price for our freedom.

(Note, you will need to pause the Playlist at the bottom of this screen to listen to this....it's so worth it....)

Please don't ever forget those who serve, and have served, and the families behind and beside them....

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae, 1915

  4. In elementary school I had to learn a poem and this was the one I chose. It is such a memorable poem ,so haunting, that I remember it word for word to this day. It still brings on a tear. We are all so blessed because of them.--Jan

  7. Very touching indeed Robin. Our veterans sell poppies at street corners and all proceeds from the poppy sales benefit the homeless veterans of Michigan..which is so sad because they protected our freedom. Take care, Janice

  11. Wonderful tribute. At our World War I museum you cross over a filed of poppies to enter. I know I just don't often enough remember and appreciate the sacrifices made by so many. ~Roberta

  14. I love this poem and it is a little bit bizarre, because a dear friend of mine that was a poet is the very reason I stopped here in the first place. She had a love for crows, so any time I see crows I think of my dear friend Jackie. She was also a lover of life and although in her final years through much pain, she always managed to find a way to smile and bring a little laughter to everyone around her. Now, Jackie brought me there, but your awesome blog kept me here. I am your newest follower. Please accept my warm and friendly invitation to visit my blog and hopefully to follow me, too. Connie :)

  15. A beautiful memorial created by your hand dear crow, beautiful indeed.

The song Angel Flight is classic trinity in that it companions elements flawlessly ~ honor, heartache and pride. Thank you for sharing it...
