...and after the flood came the blizzard.
We are no strangers to cold or snow here in Nod, but this last storm, the weekend before last, was a doozy even by our standards.
I knew we were in trouble when, on Thursday night/early Friday morning, the forecast was for 3-5" of snow and we woke up to go 13."
We had a brief reprieve during the day on Friday and Saturday, but the new system (i.e., the blizzard) moved in late Saturday night.
By Sunday morning I was unable to get out the door.
In addition to the previous 13" of snow we had just gotten, we got 31" more in less than 24 hours.
New records were set in our area and schools and roads were closed for several days (unheard of here generally).
Most of that s*#t stuff has since melted and, thankfully, even though the temps were above freezing (actually well above freezing one day), the nights were still below freezing so there wasn't horrendous flooding.
Well...I've not been back to the lake since so, perhaps, I should not speak too soon.
We've since turned cold again...with snow squalls during the days and dropping into the (very) low teens at night. As the forecast stands now, we won't be above freezing for Easter day.
Weather notwithstanding, I have started pulling some of my chicks and bunnies and such.
The light that comes through my kitchen window makes it difficult to get decent photos (no, it's not the state of cleanliness of the window), but I tried to photograph the little vignette I started on the top of the butter churn above the sink.
As I played with the focus, my attention was drawn to something in the background
Oh, wait...they didn't ever leave. (What's left of) my shrubs and the cords on my Christmas lights will attest to that.
Anyhow.
Not much is being accomplished in the handcraft realm for many reasons.
I don't think, however, that I ever shared the "final" finish of this piece: "imagine*dream*believe" by Artful Offerings.
It was stitched years ago and I posted about struggling with its floss colors. It came as a kit and, once I started stitching, the colors seemed very country-ish/baby-ish...especially when the "Woodrose" floss I had was way to the pink side vs. the peach side.
But I sucked it up and finished it and, many years later, finally got it fully finished.
Ok...that's it for now folks.
I have another week of nonsense ahead, but I will try to pop back in in the next few days and share a few more bunnies and such (hopefully not of the real variety).
{Thank you to all who commented on my prior post and for the good wishes, hopes, and prayers. I am sorry that I didn't manage to respond individually to everyone. Life, once again, got ahead of my good intentions. Please know, however, that each and every comment was appreciated and brought me a measure of comfort.}

Extraordinary weather. How do the rabbits survive in such extremes? The 'not black and white' photograph is striking and not being able to open your door is incredible. Doubtless, you're well stocked up. So long as you're warm and dry and have food and drink, life is just about bearable, if somewhat isolated.
ReplyDeleteNope, couldn't live there with that amount of snowfall, not to mention the temperatures. I find it difficult to care for one house so two would also be out of the question for me. But then you're younger and more resilient.
ReplyDeleteI like bunnies, and understand they might chew on anything green, but bet you have long furry tailed rats/squirrels who are doing the destruction to you cords. Hope spring gets to you soon!
Oops, forgot to mention I love your sweet, rock'n rabbit pillow.
ReplyDeleteOh Robin - what a winter it’s been for you. I hope the power stayed on so you could at least be comfortable. 31 inches - I can’t even imagine. And while there are certainly times I wish to be snowed in (the hermit in me) it can’t have been easy. Thank goodness your son could get to you and lend a hand. I’m sending you heartfelt wishes and warm thoughts. Your spring vignette is lovely-I believe we have the same “chocolate” bunny! And a sweet pillow as well, such talent. I appreciate the inspiration as I definitely struggle with traditional spring colors. I hope your settled in this Sunday morning cozy and warm. Take today for you, as Scarlet said: “Tomorrow is another day.”
ReplyDeletePS the cattle photo is amazing- I absolutely love it. Will be sharing it with a friend whose family has a cattle farm. They are at the fence as if to say, please take us home with you - hope there was a barn nearby - goodness the snow is brushing their undercarriages!
DeleteThat is a crazy amount of snow! So glad it is melting slowly. Your bunnies are darling including the real one.
ReplyDeleteWe are still below freezing most nights.
Cathy
Afternoon Robin, wow! I think your weather is worse than ours here in Winnipeg, we are usually the ones having blizzards like that. Crazy amount of snow there, can’t believe how much built up at your door…. … winter seems to be sticking around here, a tad depressing…..Love your vignette with bunny, nest, so sweet..The Rockin rabbit pillow is adorable, so is the bunny with it… Love your decorating, you have the knack, plus so many wonderful treasures… Take care, Francine.
ReplyDeleteAll that snow is just wrong! I would never survive in Nod.
ReplyDeleteSweet, sweet finish…as always.
31inches of Snow !!!! That is Disgusting ! I grew up in Syracuse ,NY and we would get a lot of snow , only once we had a blizzard like that and everything was shut down for days ! I was a kid and thought it was great ,,,not now !!!
ReplyDeleteHope it melts away quickly !!!
Love your pretty cross stitch !
Those cute bunnies !!! They need to move !!!!
Take care ...Spring is really supposed to come !!!
Snowmageddon on steroids. RIdiculous. Glad your thaw is gradual to prevent flooding. In the third photo, is the heart in the drift where Snowdog would perch? Love your finish.
ReplyDeleteThat much snow is just unfair. Wishing you warm weather very soon. And for goodness sake, no more snow!
ReplyDeleteI am sure you won't be forgetting this snow. For years to come, you will, undoubtedly, refer back to the snow of 2026. At least your sweet bunnies are showing up here and there. Love you vignettes and your stitches!
ReplyDeleteI believe I would have gone stir crazy with that much snow. So glad no more flooding...and hopefully no more either at the lake. Am loving your bunny displays. Have not seen this Artful Offerings one. May have to check it out for myself. You did an amazing job on the stitching of this one. Let's pray Spring will come soon. Janice
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! You have big bunnies in Nod! I don't think I could live in such a place either... always stock up, 'cause ya never know!
ReplyDeleteThat is a LOT of snow!! I hope its almost all gone now. Think how pretty your flowers will be. Bunnies out in the wild are cute but so destructive. I love your stitchery. In my life, when its chaotic, (which seems to be more often than not.) I can never be creative. I try to yank myself up by the bootstraps, but alas, it never happens.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to decorate some more. That does seem to help.
Have a lovely first day of April.
Hope you have special Easter despite the terrible weather. Keep safe and warm.
ReplyDeleteAll that snow belongs somewhere else. That's a lots of snow for spring... We didn't get much snow this winter but as soon as it melts, we get another white blanket and freezing rain. Winter just want to stay here.
ReplyDeleteI love your sweet rocking bunny pillow. Real bunnies, deers and squirrils are cute but they are not welcome here. They are just too destructive. Happy Easter.
Hugs, Julia
Geez leweez that's a #$@^ load of snow. Hope by now (just seeing this post) that there are signs of spring there for you.

ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of snow! I know my brother would talk about all the snow but that certainly was excessive! Not very Easter like! I do like your bunnies and we have the real ones too who like to chomp on my blooms in the summer. I'm not too fond of the little stinkers. But then the deer like to get to our apple trees. That's country life! I hope all the snow melts soon and Spring finds it way to Nod!
