...toward spring I mean.
In the week since I last posted, we've had two ice storms, two snow squalls, and one day of spring-like weather (today - albeit windy and rainy).
There is the possibility of snow in the forecast for tomorrow night again.

I had said I would try to show some Easter photos but, obviously, that didn't happen. Well, it's happening now (if you haven't figured that out), but it didn't happen before Easter like you probably (and rightly) assumed it would.
Each year I bring out less and less, which means I should get rid of more and more.
But that's not likely to happen either.
In any event, here are a few photos. Heavy on the rabbits, I know.
{Antique and vintage candy containers. Most are German, but a few are Japanese, or unmarked. These are the kind where the heads remove to access the candy (vs. the type with a paper-covered opening in the bottom)}
{Antique German die-cut rabbit and vintage watch faces and flower frog}
And lest the fowls cry foul, Miss Fiona is here to represent the chicks, ducks, and ducklings in my collection that didn't get shown.
{Yes, she is real...and taxidermized. Sorry}
*************
As a bit of a postscript, someone mentioned in my last post that they wondered where the rabbits go in our wretched winters.
Contrary to popular belief, they do not hibernate.
Rather, they seek shelter in a variety of places: brush piles, tall grasses, under my porch decking.
During periods of heavy snows (i.e., weekly in Nod), they will use the snow itself as a shelter - building tunnels and shallow depressions in the snow called "forms."
The snow acts as an insulator reducing loss of body heat and a buffer against the wind.
All too soon, they come out and build nests. One day the ornamental grass was covered in several feet of snow and the minute the snow melted, some bunny had burrowed in and started building a nest out my back door. Again.
GAH!

Oh da rabbits, so sweet. Please tell me friend how is it when i put out my precious treasures on display, they simply look like clutter. Where your lovely things look artfully created. You're such a clever girl. Glad you had a teeny bit of sun, I wish you more. xx
ReplyDeleteHow I love your Easter decorations. I have a taxidermy chick with an Easter hat but i don't show it on here thinking people will freak out lol. It is very old and was given to me.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has rabbits near her but she has a sweet dog who chases them out of the gardens.
Cathy
You have Wonderful Easter decorations and pretty displays !
ReplyDeleteHope Spring weather with sunshine and warm temps melt the snow away in Nod !!!!
I too enjoyed your Easter display with all the rabbits and the chick. Shrimpton's comment is right on and think your vignette's is the wonderment of it all.
ReplyDeleteI am green with envy at all of your fluffle of rabbits. They are all so sweet. I dont care if Easter is over, your displays are so perfect and I enjoyed seeing each and every one of them...including the stuffed duck. Janice
ReplyDeleteWow! I am totally gobsmacked by your Easter decor. And to think that is only a small part of what you have. I don’t want any smart alecky comments about my collections 🤣🤣🤣. I don’t even have one…not one…bunny candy container! But your little chick…uh thanks…I can do without one of those 🤦♀️
ReplyDeleteWinter is the guest that wouldn’t leave.
ReplyDeleteNever apologise for rabbits. I know they can be a nuisance, to say the least, but they are so appealing, and resistant.
ReplyDeleteOh, that stuffed bunny with the shoulder basket is adorable 😍.
ReplyDeleteHe's quite old and beginning to show his wear but that makes me love hime even more.
DeleteWhat a pretty collection. I love all of your rabbits. All of Them! I even love that duck! Gosh, you have real weather. Sometimes I think it would be so nice to have real weather. Then I see yours and I know what a complete wimp I am. Your house is so pretty. Its always a treat when you write a post.
ReplyDeleteMorning Robin, hope this day finds you well…. Winter has finally left us here, I think…..I adore your candy container rabbits, oh how I would love even one. So pricy when I do see any, I have to settle for a repo… .. I do enjoy the real bunnies as they are hopping around here at the apartment, though I also know can be naughty…. Take care, Francine.
ReplyDeletelate to the game {per usual} but OH MY how I love your rabbit & bunny collection! they are a favorite animal of mine and we feed them too, along with just about any other wild-ling that needs food...hope Spring has finally settled in for you my friend :)
ReplyDeleteI'm playing catch up from the previous (all of the above) too. Nasty weather - I like your Easter displays and I would like them any time of the year. Yes rabbits live out in the cold. Munching on brush, bushes, twigs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the beautiful Easter decorations, such sweet treasures collected over the years. And no reason they can’t stay out even longer to celebrate spring - especially as it sounds like any semblance of summer weather may not be arriving soon. Have you had any more flooding? Good grief sometimes that to do list feels absolutely overwhelming, doesn’t it? I hope you’re finding people to lend a hand to make the work easier. Hang in there, I get a feeling you’re like me. I was once described as “fiercely independent,” and it was not a compliment. Whatever, we have the grit to get things done - whether people like it or not!
ReplyDeleteOh they stay out for a while...I'm notorious for leaving holiday "trimmings" out long past their "expiration date," and that rarely has anything to do with weather. ;-) Winter has exited stage left (for now) and left in a hurry. We are currently under a tornado watch, a severe thunderstorm watch, and a flood watch. We are already saturated with the melting snow and the 2" of rain over the weekend, and as I type, thunder is rumbling. Sump pumps have been running steadily and I hooked one up for the pool so it doesn't overflow. I have no idea what's going on at the lake. Haven't managed to get up there. Praying all is - and will be - well.
DeleteYour bunny vignettes are impressive.
ReplyDeleteIn my decluttering frenzy, I brought a full large tote of bunnies, rabbits, ceramic bunny candy baskets and Easter eggs to the Salvation Army Thrift Store. I only kept four rabbits. Two for my kitchen and one for my roll top desk and one in my bathroom. I realized that I no longer was putting them out at Easter.
Today felt like a beautiful spring day but it's going to rain again tomorrow.
Hugs,
Julia
You have a wonderful collection of Rabbits and Easter items, love them all. I am doing the same thing, putting out less and I know I need to get rid of a lot. I hope you can get out of the snow and start enjoying some sunshine. I have to start checking my lawns in the spring, we have found nests in the higher grass and don't want to run over them with the mower.
