...one to die, one to grow.
Just an old gardening rhyme with lots of variations:
"Four seeds in a row, one for the rook, one for the crow, one to die, and one to grow."
"Four seeds in a row, one for the rook, one for the crow, one will wither and one will grow."
"One for the blackbird, one for the crow, one for the cutworm, and one to grow."
"One for the mouse, one for the crow, one to rot, one to grow."
"One for the wind and one for the crow, one to die and one to grow."
...and so many more one could write a book of nothing but these rhymes.
Anyway...that has little to do with this post.
The season to sow is long past. Sometimes I feel like I went to sleep sometime in April and woke up and it was the end of October.
Somehow there is less than one week until Halloween.
I've not gotten a fraction of the things done that I had hoped to (including blogposts), but I have gotten some of my Halloween up and a few (small) projects crossed off my list.
Wow...have I veered off topic.
Back to "One for the Crow"....
In addition to an old and prolific gardening rhyme, it's the name of this design by With Thy Needle & Thread.
I stitched these designs several years ago but was disappointed in the linen I used. It was the called-for 40 ct "Legacy" from Picture this Plus," but my pieces did not look like the model photos.
I distressed the linen a bit after I completed the stitching, but they still were pale and sickly. (These photos make them look closer to the models but they aren't really.)
However, after extended stays at both the Isle of Misfits and Castaways and The Isle of the Unfinished, they finally made it into these little pinkeeps.
Two littles off the list....
Now back to my other distractions.

Love your ghoulish slippers! Congrats on crossing off the finished pinkeeps and think kitkat wants to go chase a bunny. But I'd be afraid she'd catch it.
Good evening Robin, loving your header, very you and sweet…… Adore your pin keeps but I’ve never met a pin keep I didn’t like, they have a special place in my heart. Your amazing talent with the design’s , I love them all.. ..I cannot believe it’s almost the end of October, do not know where time has gone. We have closed up camp so back to the crappy noisy city, I’m not a happy camper, lol….. The last picture is so cute, I spy a bunny outside your door with a kitty entranced…. Wishing you a peaceful night, Blessings Francine.
I need to purchase these patterns...not that I need any more in my stash of "I want to do these next pile"...and that pile seems to be getting bigger each month. I have an addiction to cross stitch now. We wont be passing out candy at our store this year. The town decided to have Halloween on Saturday due to a football game on Friday night...who has a football game on Halloween??? Well anyway some folks are doing it on Friday and Saturday. We chose to just not do it at all and stay home. No kiddos in our neighborhood which is why we pass it out at the store. Cannot believe it is almost November already. We already had one fire in our fireplace already though. Janice
EVen the accomplishment of small tasks is a reason to rejoice.
Not sure if I've ever heard that gardening rhyme. I thought when I read it here that I had - but no. It's probably 1 for the money 2 for the show... that I am thinking of. Your pinkeeps seem appropriately subdued to me I like them as well as your ghosty footwear.
Enjoyed everything about this post! Especially the rectangular pin keep. Those Crows!!
Lovely work. I adore all Corvids, and make sure I speak to them when I see them. When we were in the Lake District the other week we were walking along a very quiet lane and a Crow was overhead making very unusual noises then he flew over me so closely I could hear the noise his wings made, it was wonderful.
Sweet finishes! At least you finally finish cross stitch pieces…unlike your twin 🤷♀️
Wonderful Stitcheries, and the antiquing is a great way to age them.
I have only heard a line or two of that poem.
your pin keeps are wonderful sorry you are not happy with them.
But oh your slippers are fun. I know this is your favorite time of year I hope you enjoy what is left of it this week.
Cathy
Love your pin keeps , they look great ! Not looking forward to changing the clocks and seeing stick trees again ....
Happy Halloween !!!
What beautiful work you do. What a cute picture of your kitty watching that bunny. I am so glad you have such fun fall things going on. Just today, we have fall. I am so glad.
They are fabulous. On my screen, perfect mottling, the linen looks well aged, whatever is in the chart photo could not be better than yours. Period.
