Not quite a "month of Sundays," but it’s definitely been several moons since I've posted.
Sorry (or not, depending on point of view).
The "full pink moon" at the beginning of April lived up to her name.
(Technically, this was a few days prior to my last post but, close enough.}
As with most springs in Nod, Father Winter is not leaving without a battle, but the duel between Winter and Spring seems especially prolonged this year. In some ways, the battle reminds me of that of a teenage daughter who is testing her limits with her father.
Personally, however, I think Spring is the underdog in this squirmish.
The snow has mostly melted, replaced by rainy, soggy, days with only periodic fits and squalls of snow flurries.
No, that date is not a typo and, no, Rib Mountain is not a proper mountain as most of the rest of you know mountains.
We had a few (i.e., maybe 2??) days mid-April during which the temperatures climbed to the 70's. But when that happens here, it means storms and tornadoes will follow because the warmth never lasts.
So far in 2026, 26 tornadoes have touched down in Wisconsin, two of which have been in my "backyard" (i.e., within 15 miles or so from Nod).
The closest one touched down on April 17, 2026. It was an EF-3 tornado (with winds of 145 mph). It stayed on the ground 17 minutes and covered a distance of 13.5 miles.
At least 75 homes were damaged or destroyed in the immediate area. (Later, official reports indicated 140 homes were damaged/destroyed in the township.)
Thankfully, no lives were lost.
While the duel is ongoing, we cheer Spring on.
This little Eastern Phoebe is an incredibly melodic cheerleader.
Despite the "greening," more nights than not come with a frost or freeze warning and that doesn't appear that it will change anytime particularly soon.
Despite being known as a "Flower Moon," the most recent full moon (last week) was clothed in cold, moody-colored, clouds.
Had I not known better, I could have sworn that it was the Wolf Moon.
{I was having some difficulty uploading this video, so fingers crossed it works. It is dark (because it WAS dark) so all you will likely see to click on is an arrow...and you will need to make sure your volume is turned up.}
It looks to be another cold night in Nod.

You do seem to be stuck in winter, like so many of your compatriots. Just two seasons in Nod? Winter and summer (when it comes)
LOVE hearing that wolf!!! Wonderfully haunting! Hoping warm weather arrives there very soon! Kathy
Thanks Kathy! That wolf was haunting...it was so very loud it was freaking out my cats even with the windows and doors all closed. Hoping it warms up soon too. Another freeze warning for tonight. (PS...glad you found this post. Apparently it is not showing on the feed. Grrr....Blogger is definitely trying to phase us out.) Happy Mother's Day!
Oh your video is amazing. I sure wish I could figure out how to post them!
You always post the most wonderful moon pictures 🌙🌝
Hopefully spring will eventually find its way to Nod 🤞
We have had snow flurries last week and lots of frost advisories and warnings too. It has been a weird Spring for us too. That sure is a lot of tornadoes though. We had 5 thus far in April which normally tornado season for us is May....but not complaining with as many as you have had. We have been hearing coyotes at night lately. Never heard a wolf before so that was pretty cool. Janice Hope you had a fantastic Mother's Day Robin. Janice
I sure wouldn't have been outside in the dark with wolves roaming and howling. Thankfully we don't have wolves in Delaware ~ or at least this part. But we do have coyotes.
We are still cold we will have lovely warm days then days and days of cold. Lots of frosty mornings. Snow still falling in our mts. Those tornados are scary.
That video is amazing! We hear coyotes but they yip not howl.
Flippin freezing eh? We're having mixed weather here in Blighty. Loved the howling. I thought I could see lots of little stars, turns out it was just dust on my screen :)
Wow that is so dark! That is cool though. Well, I feel guilty because it was 101 here yesterday, same hot day today. But then we go back to 80 degree spring. I think its so beautiful in Nod. I was thinking about you watching weather reports and seeing the track of the tornadoes.
Mother Nature...love hate relationship. I still haven't caught up on my sleep from that last spotlight we were honored with. Thanks for sharing!
Wow your video is so eerie !! We hear coyotes , but the wolf sounds more creepy !
Glad to hear the tornados have not been near you ....our weather is like a YoYo ....warm , then Hot ...crazy.
Hope the snow melts sooner than June !!! And summer returns to Nod soon !
Good morning Robin, hope this day finds you well… I’m in love with your moon photo’s, I’m a lover of the moon. Also wolves and your video is magical! I loved it so, nothing like a wolf howl…We have coyotes here at camp that I hear but nothing like a haunted wolf call…. Weather here has been insane, one sunny warm day the rest windy, chilly and no Spring….How scary about the Tornados but good to know no one hurt…Always enjoy your photos, the Phoebe is beautiful…. ..Have a great weekend, Blessings Francine.
That little video is pretty spooky, don't you think? But, I liked it anyway. :~) Our weather is like, always, all over the page. We are quite dry and are smack in the center of drought on the maps. AI is definitely having trouble predicting the weather lately.
Farewell April 2026 is what I say. Hahaha. Your night skies and video are so neat.
That howl gave me chills! I sure hope spring finds you soon. We're supposed to get to the 80's this week...at least in the beginning of the week. I'm not fond of super-hot weather in May but some simple 60-70's would be nice. We've had a lot of rain and even the mosquitoes are out already. Take care Robin and have a good Memorial day weekend next week.
i always enjoy your moody photos my friend...I hope you'll get your warmer weather soon!
Sorry so late in catching up, I can’t seem to get enough done and the days are slipping by. The tornado cloud photo is extraordinary, amazingly beautiful - and yet so destructive when they touch down. I hope all is well and you’re getting a breath of spring. It certainly lifts the spirits. Although I do find it a time of anxiety as well. Winter leaves a mess behind to be cleaned up and the weeds oh the weeds. Enough complaining, I hope it’s a good weekend for you. I hope things are going well at the lake house too.
