Of Crows, Moons, and Large Alien Eyeballs

Some would think the days pass slowly in Nod - especially for a hermit.
The winter days, yes, they are interminable...but the days of summer pass mercurially fast.

Many are spent counting crows.

One for sorrow, two for mirth;
Three for a wedding, four for death....

And the nights are spent with Sister Moon.
Every month for a lifetime, I have watched her blossom from a meek sliver into a round, ripe, melon in the sky.
But, lately, I have paid more attention to what a changeling she really is.

July 22nd:

July 24th:

July 26th:

July 27th:

July 29th:

One week... It slipped by so quickly...or perhaps that's what time does when one grows older.

For nights when the moon is shy and keeps to the clouds, I have a likeness of her in  my garden.

In her comment on my previous post, Marly of Samplers-and-Santas asked what the "large alien eyeball" was outside my dungeon window.

I explained that it is a gazing ball...atop of a concrete cat lying on its back, slowly being overtaken by rogue sedum, and promised her a photo.

The dungeon is in the basement and, therefore, the view from the dungeon window is at ground level.

But, yes, I do, indeed, see an alien eyeball.  ðŸ¤£

Another day, and the moon will be full and a new month will be begin.
And so goes the rhythm of nature and time.

Goodbye July.

Winter just ended for you didn't it? It stays so cold up there but you've had a warm, dry summer haven't you. Great pics of the moon. I'm not sure if we'll see the full moon as we've had rain almost daily and storms nightly. We have our fair share of crows too. I see more of them in the cemetery and always wish I could get that creepy pic of one on a headstone. My son is living in my dungeon for now...hopefully I'll get it back one of these days as I always like to hide out down there! Take care Robin!

Your moon photography is amazing. I didn't realize that the moon grew so fast either. I love your gazing ball on that little cement base. I too was wondering what it was. I have my share of crows and they have nests in the trees by the river in front of my house.

My dungeon has been pretty damp this summer and I have to empty two humidifiers two to three times a day to keep the humidity low down there.

Summer is passing way too fast for me and I don't even have time to post but I'm trying to be faithful at visiting blogs at least.

Take care, hugs.
Julia

We love the moon also but haven't kept as good track of it as you have. But a full moon is always noted among my group of friends who speak every day.
I love your gazing ball and that is not what it looks like in the first photo

I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. I found it about two months ago and read it in its entirety in one sitting. It is a happy day when I receive an email notifying me that you’ve added a new post! I too am a huge fan of our moon. I’ve never assigned it a gender but do love thinking of it as “sister moon” after reading this post. Sister moon she shall remain! Like everyone else who commented, I think your moon photos are spectacular. You have quite a knack for photography! I hope we meet one day. You are so very inspiring and interesting!

I hadn't heard your version of the crow rhyme before - interesting.
I always found the moon cold in my youth, not at all romantic, but my view changed gradually. Seeing it through a telescope made a huge difference, and the full moons throughout the year are beautiful, all with their different names.

That "eyeball," just makes me smile. I never noticed that.
Your gardens are always lovely and I love those pictures of the moon.
What wonderful pictures.
I don't think I am ever up that late. Sadly. Have a nice week.

Yes I have been watching the moon wax and wane this month. Full moon tonight. That gazing ball did look like an alien eye. LOL Thanks for letting us know as I was wondering myself what it was. The days are getting shorter my friend. Janice

Evening Robin, I love the crows out my patio door cawing every morning in the pines, always say a good morning to them and think of you. Love that you are near me bringing me comfort…. Sister moon indeed, my eyes are always looking skyward for that magical moon. You have taken wonderful pictures and I didn’t think it changed that fast either, I love it a sliver or full…. Your gazing ball is beautiful, I’ve never had one in my gardens….. I cannot believe the last day of July is here, a year ago my world turned upside down with the move, hard to believe been here a year. Thank goodness I have our camp as I love the outdoors and there I am at peace with sister moon…. Sending love and hugs, August Blessings Francine.

That big ole round moon is beautiful here tonight. I, too, enjoyed your wonderful moon pics. I keep trying to think of positive things about July, and I know there are many, but right now I just can't be sad that he is leaving town. Happy August to you and all of Nod.

Ah, the moon, the moon the beautiful moon. Illuminating and beautiful, but sometimes she keeps me awake with her callings.

I agree with Kathy. Your posts are always special.

I didn't see a reply about that eyeball so glad you explained! The reflection in it really had me puzzled. Very nice ball! Still looks like an eye from the dungeon.

Can you believe we landed on that moon? Amazing. And such perfect photos.

I too enjoy the company of Luna also. I've never heard the sayings along with counting crows (can you believe that? so up my alley too.)
Cracked up seeing the alien eyeball then seeing the actual object 😂

The moon pictures are cool. Did you see the "blue" moon the other night? So huge and bright.
