Olde Witche Mary

{Sorry...photo is washed out a bit...it's been very dreary here these last several days.}

This pattern has been in my "gotta-stitch" stash for many years now.  I finally pulled it out and stitched it...and even managed to fully finish it.

The design is called "Olde Witche Mary" by Lori Breclin of Notforgotten Farm.  It is stitched on 40 ct "Legacy" by Picture this Plus with Gentle Arts "Raven" floss.

The pattern, of course, brought to mind my grandmother (7x removed) who was hanged as a witch in Salem 331 years and 3 days ago, Mary Eastey (also spelled "Esty" or "Easty").

After I finished stitching it, however, I thought of a variation to the verse that would have been more fitting for her, but it was too late to turn back.

The past 3 days the skies have opened and released all the rain it withheld from us the entire summer. We had over 3" in a day and a half and it is continuing just as heavily today.
Even our parched clay soil cannot absorb it all.

In between the deluges, though, the magic of autumn shines through.

~Happy Autumn~

I've admired that pattern, too, for a long time...the frame is gorgeous.

That boot is a hoot! Love Mary and the color you chose is perfect. Some day I will have time to stitch more....wait that might be in October. Too late for fall items though. Oh well. I will simply enjoy what you stitch up. Janice

We are getting color, no where near as much as you have though. Where is your gggggggrandmother's stone? Did you visit and take the photo?

Have never seen that NFF chart. Sweet!

Your finish is absolute perfection!
We are becoming parched here in northern Ohio. I would welcome rain, but not 3”.
Wow on your fall colors.

I don’t understand. I have never been able to comment from the iPad as Rugs and Pugs or Lauren and today it let me comment as Lauren. I didn’t change anything. Technology…argh.

Your poor grandmother (x7). How cool that you have a photo of her tombstone. Your sampler is perfect! And your autumn is absolutely gorgeous! Nothing autumn-y here in Maryland yet. Like everyone else, I have to ask...where did that boot sign come from?? I NEED one!!!

You have a fantastic connection to your 7x grandmother.
I hope the rain eases. It does the land no good when it comes in such quantities.

It's lovely to think you still have your 7x grandmother in your thoughts. She came to a terrible end, but is still remembered, I feel sure it would please her greatly. Beautiful stitch work by the way, I'm envious. Oh and that boot is tremendous, it gives me ideas.

What a lovely tribute to your 7X Grandmother, Mary. She must be smiling upon you in
appreciation and gratitude....some connection you have. Find another sampler to
insert your newly devised phrase of honor and one of these days, you'll satisfy
the urge. Your autumn view is perfection. If the shoe fits, you know what......

Oh Dear Robin, this is our season! With the storms out East we moved our trip to Salem to the Spring but I will certainly look for your dear Aunt's marker and take a photo for you! We made it to Upper Michigan and the colors have changed and it was beautiful and sunny. It's slowly turning colors down here and rain this week too. Mosquitoes have been horrid and I wish I had a spell to cast to get them away! I finished my Halloween decorating today and will post soon. I'm behind a bit in blogging but will get back on it! Love the stitchery and wishing you a lovely Autumn!

What talent! I am finishing up a jackolantern by Lori, a freebie that is keeping my hands busy. Your trees are further along than ours. There is a hint here and there of autumn in the green but more than a hint in our cold air! Happy Fall! Sheepunderfeet

My husband's maternal line also descends from Mary Towne Estey through her son Isaac Estey. The religious persecution that drove the Puritans to the New England colonies didn't seem to soften their attitudes toward those whose beliefs didn't align with theirs.
