Lie Light

I've always had an affinity for tombstone angels (truthfully? ...tombstones of any sort) and the moment I saw this design I knew I had to stitch it.

It is called "Lie Light" from CozyEgg Designs, The Nocturne Collection.
What drew me to it was the fact that the verse is an adaptation of a poem that Mark Twain had engraved on his (favorite) daughter's (Susy Clemens') tombstone when she died in 1896.
The original poem, by Robert Richardson, is entitled "Annette" and appeared in a book called Willow and Wattle published in 1893.

I stitched it on the called-for linen (40ct "Eastwick" by Needle & Flax which was gifted to me by a kind blogger friend...thank you Edgar!) with the called-for floss (Fisherman's Wharf by Gentle Arts.)

This is a photograph of Susy's gravestone:

In other news, a few of you have asked for updates on little Mia.
I've forgotten to whom I've responded so will just update here.
She is doing well and seems to be thriving.
She was not feeling well on Halloween so her first Halloween outing to Gigi's house was canceled, but she made the cutest little bat despite not feeling well.

And because her hair cracks me up, here's another photo:

That's it folks... There's other news, but nothing fun so not talking about it...hoping that by not giving it breath it will go away.

Oh...and Cathy (Acorn Hollow Blogspot), this one's for you:
I see you your moose and raise you a lamb??  😂

I love your tomb cross stitch. It's lovely with the angel on top. I had never known about Mark Twain's poem on his daughter's grave. I learned something new today.

Oh mama Mia, that little bat is just adorable. I can't believe how much she has grown already. Thanks for the update.

I love your take on Cathy's mug of hot beverage, and your is not to be undone either.

Wishing you all the Best, Hugs.

That is a beautiful piece and I do love tombstone art, as well. I have been taking photos when I visit graveyards and hopefully I can get a book of designs made up, this year. Mia is so cute in that bat outfit, really creative.

Beautiful verse and lovely stitching. The little bat is delightful. She has a determined look about her - a strong personality emerging there, I think.

I love your stitching. Very interesting about Mark trains daughter.
You are right to not give breath to anything you don't want. It only gives it more energy (good or bad)
Ohhhhh I love your lamb.
And speaking of my moose I saw a dead moose on the highway a bit of a shock.
Sweet Mia what a darling bat. I do hope she is feeling better.

Little Mia is adorable! I just want to gently pinch those cheeks! Love her costume too. As you know I love cemeteries and looking at unusual tombstones. This poem is lovely and I can see why he'd want it on his daughter's stone. I think I see an animal in my mug competition coming up in blog land! Nice little lamb Robin!

That verse brings tears to my eyes. Love to you, now and for the new year coming. Regarding tombstones, you would have a field day in my old hometown of New Orleans.
