Where Winter Lives

There is a place where the pines are crusted with snow and the spruce are coated with the dusty glitter of frost.

A place where the wind howls in misery as the winter passes,

and Spring shivers meekly in the unwelcoming cold, hesitant to come.

But every once and again, the fortunate soul catches a glimpse of the place transformed.

The gateway to a crystal forest opens and a tantalizing fairyland unfolds.

Dressings of ice sparkle like shards of glass, iridescent in the lucent sun,

and one is surrounded by heaven's great tears of icy glass, richly furring branches that once were bare.

While the maples groan and the pin oaks splinter, the tinkling branches laugh in the wind.

For a few short days, the world is terrible and beautiful at once and there is a nothingness in between.

This is where winter lives.

Warm hug to you! Can't wait for your ode to spring. What a lovely winter post though I know you're sick of it.

I had to shut my eyes to that white stuff for fear it would infiltrate my area. Wishing you warm weather soon.
Damn it Robin, write a book! You have such a way with words that we wouldn't even need pictures to 'see' your thoughts!!!!!

I always love it when the snow and ice stick to the trees...but not in Spring. Here's hoping it blows away and warmer temps come your way. Janice

Gorgeous photos. As Saundra and I have said before, you need to write a book. You have such a wonderful way with words ♥️♥️♥️

A magical hoar frost, we sometimes get them in Derbyshire, so beautiful and other worldly.

So incredibly beautiful. I always feel badly for anyone living where winter never seems to end, so it made me really happy to see that you appreciate it and see it's beauty, even this late in the year. You are a wonder!!

Beautiful writing to accompany stunning photographs. Cold, chilly beauty, clothing the trees like spring blossom.

The pictures are so, so pretty - thanks for braving the cold temps to take them! I can just see you all bundled up in a cute coat, stylish boots, and a jaunty hat! I know I’m in the minority, but the thought of summer heat makes me want winter to linger a bit longer. I need to find that perfect place where summer is no warmer than 65 degrees! I haven’t been brave enough to knock on that farmhouse door close to the corn crib - but I will - I must! Did you say yours was covered with wisteria? If so any problems with the weight of it? I showed yours to a friend - now you have two of us pea green with envy! She’s the one who shares her milk - yes it is a lot, so I put it in the freezer or make cheese or ice cream. Take care, keep warm, and we’ll catch up soon!

The sun on crystal trees is so beautiful and you've captured that perfectly. They've had their prom, time to remove the glitz and go home.

I cannot imagine getting that much snow, this late in the season. I did notice on an old memory, that I had photos of a snowstorm we got one year. Miss Mia is so cute and such a fun age.

I read your post earlier and thought I commented but I was wrong! Those pics are beautiful but made me want to put on a sweater! I'm hoping we are done with snow. We had a little the other day but it melted fast. I know my brother gets the same weather as you and I remember when they had snow in June...brrr! So hugs from a little warmer Ohio Robin!

As beautiful as snow is, and how perfectly you showcased it, I'm sick of the snow and need some vitamin D!

What lovely prose. I love that you are seeing such beauty, what a cold place you live in. Are you feeling better now? I have a week off and I got to stop in. I love your posts.

Beautiful photos and beautiful writing. I hope it's warmed up a bit there in Nod...it's been an awful April for us here - I think we've had three days without rain. Jan in MA

PS - even if the weather is frosty there this weekend, do something just for YOU! A favorite food that you never splurge on (because no one else will eat it) A favorite movie (because no one else ever wants to watch it!), And absolutely some kind of a sweet treat-I’m thinking chocolate cheesecake!

Afternoon Crow, wow! I cannot believe I have not visited you in 2 weeks…. This looks so magical, I know not great for spring but it’s so pretty, you really are great with the camera. By now I sure hoped it’s warmed up for you, everything melted…Also hope you are feeling better, think about you often….. Here we have had some warm days but then Old Man Winter buds in, so nothing to great. I did wonder the nursery to pick myself up and walked out with Pansy’s and Viola, they make me happy……We have been to camp a few times that also made me happy for awhile… Wishing you Easter Blessings, love and hugs Francine.
