Grace and Sovereignty...
Sounds like a pretty deep and ponderous post, yeah?
Well, it's not..
The design is by Stacy Nash and was stitched on 40-Count "Boardwalk" linen by Colour and Cotton, using the mostly called-for DMC flosses. Many liberties were taken with the original design to accommodate my OCD.
(Marly (Samplers and Santas) would be so very proud.)
This was the second piece I took to a local artist for framing, the first being Noel Sampler by With Thy Needle and Thread.
(Did I share the framed finish of that or not? I can't seem to find it in older posts. In any event, here it is:)
As you can see, they are the exactly same frame.
This was completely unintentional on both my and the framer's part.
If nothing else, I guess I am consistent.
(I prefer "consistent" to unimaginative.)
And Sovereignty...
Sovereignty is the horse that won this year's Kentucky Derby.
For many (many) years, our neighbors have hosted a Kentucky Derby party.
(I know I've posted about at least one of them before, but the posts don't show in the searches as I apparently wasn't using labels back then.)
It's been a few years since I've actually gone to one of the parties, but this year I broke hermitage and went.
Each year they do it up better.
There are mint juleps, horse betting (and other forms of gambling - scratch offs, pull tabs, bingo -all with a horsey theme), and an amazing spread of food.
This year, the track was a muddy mess, and I was grateful none of the horses were injured.
The horse, Journalism, was favored to win but (ironically??), Sovereignty beat out Journalism, and Baeza came in third.
Although I've been a bit out of the derby loop for a while, I actually did well in the betting - winning the first place ("win") pool, the third place ("show") pool, and even the trifecta pool.
Yeeesss!!
Sometimes walking amongst the living isn't so very awful.

Congrats on your wins. Heck I am so out of it did not even realize the Derby was today until I saw Cathy’s post. How ironic as you mentioned that Sovereignty beat Journalism 🤣🤣🤣
Your stitched pieces are beautiful and that frame is perfect for both of them!
Rugs and Pugs
I was not aware of who won the race, however very ironic which horse won. Your stitched pieces looks awesome! Glad you got out and some fun. Janice
Beautiful, painstaking handwork.
Often, the most difficult part of joining in is making the decision to take part. I frequently duck it . . .
Great wins. The horse, Sovereignty, is so handsome and noble.
Such a beautiful cross stitch! I do love the frame. Do you know of a frame supply shop on line? I was worried the horses would be injured in the mud as well. The winner is a stunning horse! I grew up around horses. My uncle had show horses. I'm glad you had a good time at the party. Love the picture of everyone. I do like theme parties.
Gorgeous creature! Looks and sounds like you had some fun, luck and friends on your side. Life is indeed out there.
I missed all the Derby hoopla and didn't know who won. Shame on me because my sister is a licensed race horse trainer in the state of FL. Her horse, Lil Betty Mo, one of my namesakes (her Mom was Betty Mo) was claimed and came in last ~in protest?~ this past weekend and that's where my heart was. Glad for my sis but sad too as Lil Betty once nuzzled my hair & face so sweetly.
Oh and your stitching and frame are wonderful. Gimme a a few years...made me chuckle.
I guess Kentucky Derby parties are a 'thing' and I've never been to one. Congrats on your winnings and by the size of your group it must have been quite a haul. Had to chuckle as to Sovereignty triumphing over Journalism. Am also glad no injuries were sustained at the event as race horses have such delicately thin bones for the stress they endure. And with a slippery race track making it even more dangerous.
Congrats, too, on another finely finished stitchery.
The race track was such a sloppy mess .... Sovereignty is a beautiful horse !
Your cross stitch projects are beautiful and those frames look antique ! So pretty
Looks and sounds like a really fun party for the race , great picture !!!
Your stitches are beautiful and the frames really complement each piece. Happy to read you had a fun and profitable time at the Derby gathering.
Hey hey my girl out and about, hither and thither, gambling, drinking, good on yer.
Yes I am proud! Grace looks wonderful, great job setting her straight!
Good for you on the win and gathering. I didn't and couldn't watch because of wet track fear.
gorgeous stitching and framing ~ the beauty and majesty of that horse takes my breath away :)
Your stitching is perfect as always. I do love that frame.
Oh lucky you I didn't win a thing at the Derby party I went to.
So very glad you got among the living and had a good time.
Cathy
Oh I am so far behind in catching up - how can the days go by so quickly?! What gorgeous cross stitching - such a talent you have - the samplers are so beautiful! I just don’t have the patience for such tiny stitches. Really Robin, lovely. Sounds like such fun with friends and yay for choosing winners! Hoping your weather is good (translation no more snow!) so you can sit outside and enjoy - good for the soul😊
