...Camelot it's not.
And for someone who is a huge fan of Camelot, I am not entirely certain how I ended up in a place like the Cold, Cold, Land of Nod.
In the musical, King Arthur declares:
It's true! It's true! The crown has made it clear.
The climate must be perfect all the year.
And then he sings of the glories of Camelot:
A law was made a distant moon ago here:
July and August cannot be too hot.
And there's a legal limit to the snow here
In Camelot.
The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot.
By order, summer lingers through September
In Camelot.
Camelot! Camelot!
I know it sounds a bit bizarre,
But in Camelot, Camelot
That's how conditions are.
The rain may never fall till after sundown.
By eight the morning fog must disappear.
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Camelot.
Camelot! Camelot!
I know it gives a person pause,
But in Camelot, Camelot
Those are the legal laws.
The snow may never slush upon the hillside.
By nine p.m. the moonlight must appear.
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Camelot.
Yeah, Nod is pretty much the polar opposite of Camelot (pun intended): No limits to the snow here (legal or otherwise), winter tries sneaking in as soon as October (and, some years, even September is not off limits) and, as for the rain not falling till after sundown?
HA!
It falls morning, noon and night...and whenever else it feels like it.
Yesterday morning started like this:
It went downhill from there.
Yesterday afternoon/last night were worse.
It continued into the wee hours of the morning before giving us a brief reprieve.
It just started again with more heavy rain forecast through the evening and night. As you can see, we are under another flood watch.
I have once again hooked up the pumps, but water has already made its way through the chimney and into the furnace room.
I shudder to think of what is happening at the lake.
Weather aside, Nod can be beautiful.
{Not beautiful, mayhap...and destructive little rodents they are...but, have to admit, they're cute.}
{The first "volunteer" patio petunia of the year}
{Middle-of-the-night skies}
...and there are treasures here.
Oh wait...I have one of those too.

I have a thing about rain - now don’t get me wrong, a shower dancing on a metal roof or watching it fall while sitting on a porch - lovely. However: when it’s nonstop, I know it will find a spot to get in. And it’s so darn destructive. Enough is enough - you deserve a break. I hope the lake house is holding tight and that the storms pass soon. And yes, there are sweet things in the middle of all the madness - flowers, even critters, and that darling little Miss - look at those crossed legs - so ladylike! I get it - some days are a battle. Wait - is that a knock at the door, is someone bringing dinner? Ha ha! Take care of yourself - do what makes your heart happy.
Camelot would be just perfect.
Unending rain is no fun, especially when accompanied by howling gales, but the flowers are pretty, and your little granddaughter a delight. It's hard to be positive in the midst of a storm, but you've made a good stab at it! I wish you a dry house, warmth and sunshine, but not blistering heat. It is summer, isn't it??
The rain....OMG...forget getting hay of our field anytime soon! Soupy mess in our garden. Rain, winds, hail they came, but Camelot stood strong still the same.....ahaha.
I so enjoy your posts. Your photos are beautiful, and your commentary real. Weather everywhere has taken a drastic turn (after Snowmageddan, I get anxiety if we get Snow...not the way to be!). Still, we carry on, enjoying the beauty in our lives. I have a little granddaughter who just turned 3, and her presence reminds me of the good things!
That's a lot of liquid but it looks like some things (trees, petunia & treasure) thrive. I think you're now living in the Land of Sog. Living close to the ocean we have masks & snorkels...I'd be glad to share.
I think I may be singing a weather related song soon too. Rain, rain go away, come again another day.
You have been getting the rain we need here due to a severe drought. But sure don't want the amounts you've been receiving. Mia is adorable! The volunteer petunia is quite striking.
Rodents? I'd take the bunnies over squirrels any day.
We have been getting a lot of rain and the pollen is like nothing I have ever seen before. But now we are in the steamy tropics and I hate that more than anything!!!
Cathy
So much rain !!! Hope your Lake house will be safe too. And your land of Nod dries out !!! We are in a drought here and it has been Hotter Than Hattys for the past few days ....we have already had a Heat Wave ! And now on our second one ! Mia is precious , dressed up and so dainty . Squirrels and chipmunks drive us and our dog crazy !
Beautiful pictures as always, especially Miss Mia. She is getting so big.
I’ve never seen a patio petunia. It’s usually weeds that pop up in the cracks.
That is some serious rain 🌧️. My basement would have been flooded 😡
There is a lovely contrast running through this, between the almost musical idea of Camelot and the far less predictable reality of Nod, especially with weather that refuses to behave itself. The flood watch details give a real sense of ongoing effort: pumps ready, water still finding its way where it should not. Yet even in the middle of that, there is clear appreciation for the quieter gifts, night skies, small garden surprises, and even the little squirrel moments that soften everything around the edges. It feels like a place that keeps testing patience while still offering reasons to pause and notice what is still worthwhile. www.melodyjacob.com
LOL...the part about someone bringing dinner made me laugh. Yes, some days truly are a battle...and I'm getting pretty weary of them. The rain has stopped but the wind hasn't. If it keeps up like this, there won't be any leaves left to fall in autumn, so many have been ripped from the trees. I just keep reminding myself that it could be worse. (And then chastise myself for that because it usually then gets worse LOL)
Hi Nancy...I'm replying here as I'm not sure I have your email at this point, so I hope you see this. Thank you so very much for your kind comments - and for your visits. They are appreciated. Yes...grands have a way of doing that, don't they?? Enjoy every minute. Your granddaughter is the same age as mine...such a fun age!
We had the cold and rain, not as heavy as yours, and now not a drop for two weeks. I hope things get remedied at the lake. I wish there was a reputable contractor that could start and not leave until all is correctly done. That leg cross is too cute!!
Afternoon Robin, well I must admit Nodd sounds very much like Winnipeg. Winter lasts way to long, summer flies by and now a days it’s cold to hot, no mild Spring or Fall…. As for rain, it’s been here too and along comes Tornado watches, it’s kookoo…. Camelot for sure …..I always enjoy your beautiful photos as your wonderful with the camera.. love the Patio Petunia peeking up, little bunny, clouds are so pretty. Well Mia is as sweet as can be in her black dress with legs crossed, such a doll…. Here at camp I am enjoying even if cool, rainy, I’m out of the city. There is a bear coming at night raiding my bird feeders so every night I put them in the shed, so far so good…. Take care, hope you will enjoy some sunny skies soon, Blessings Francine.
Hello Robin! I'm very behind in blogging and visiting but I'm glad I stopped by Nod today. I know Wisconsin has been hit hard as I still have family there and also the Chicago area where my sister lives. I hope sunshine finds you for a decent amount of time to dry things up and make you smile! Have a good week!
