Out of necessity, over the many years, I've had to be the tech-savvy one.
It did not, necessarily, come naturally to me and was one of my "skills" I preferred I didn't have. However, it kept my staff and family afloat (mostly).
Maybe I'm just too stinking old to keep up with it, or I'm just tired of the trying, but I really can't anymore.
I rely on the Blogger "Reading List" to inform me when bloggers I follow have posted new posts.
A few months+ back, it seemed that my reading list was not showing recent posts from blogs I followed.
I researched, pondered, and tinkered and found a simple resolution (manually refreshing my FeedBurner/RSS feed). (FeedBurner is the feed reader that Blogger (and other feed readers) use to retrieve posts.) I think I even helped a fellow blogger resolve the same issue on her blog.
And then "this" happened.
Over a week ago, I again noticed something seemed off with my "Reading List."
No new posts were showing.
I manually refreshed my FeedBurner feed, cleared all caches, and tested.
Finally, a post from Saundra (Woodland Junction Blogspot) showed up so I thought all was well (again).
It wasn't and isn't.
The only posts that show up in my Reading List were/are Saundra's.
(Yes, I double-checked by going to a few blogs who post regularly and, sure enough, there were posts.... many of them...only none of them showing on my Reading List.
I did what I did last time (manually refreshed my FeedBurner feed)...did a test post (as sometimes things only refresh in the background until a new post is made) and nope. Still, only Saundra's posts show.
More researching, pondering, and tinkering ensued and the conclusion is not good.
This is not a FeedBurner/RSS issue.
Apparently Google Blogger is having a major backend/cache problem.
And this is giving me (and likely others) a major "backend" problem as well.
This also explains why I was experiencing that new posts were missing, delayed, or appearing out of order. To add insult to injury, all questions regarding this topic have been locked on the "Help" platform and replying has been disabled.
So.....Gameplan B: Find a workaround.
Ummm, another "nope."
Essentially this would require bypassing Blogger's Reading List and use a separate feed reader (e.g., Feedly, Inoreader, NetNewsWire, etc.).
Not necessarily a huge deal...but the deal becomes huge when I have to transfer my Blogger Reading List/followed blogs into the new feed reader, and Blogger doesn't offer a simple "export my Reading List" button that alternative feeders can directly import. Consequently, I would have to manually search out the feed address for each and every blog I follow and add it to the new feed reader manually.
I can't wrap my head around how long that would take me.
In short, I'm "fed" up with FeedBurner, feed readers, and feeds in general.
I don't know what else to say.
Theoretically, each day I could look up each and every blog (I can remember) I follow and check to see if they posted anything new, but I follow almost 200 blogs (197 to be precise). (It actually was more until Blogger limited the number of blogs one can follow. Granted, not all are still active, but I don't want to delete them, you know?)
So I am stuck here.
And I am sad here.
Blogging has been a refuge for me for many years and I've come to count so many of you as my dearest friends.
But until (unless??) Blogger fixes things, I don't know when I will be able to see you or your posts. And, if things are mucked up in the manner that I think they might be, you may not see anything I post...including this post. 😢
Not sure why I bothered...but I'm developing an expertise in exercises of futility I guess.
Be well my friends.
You will be sincerely and dearly missed.

Well, Robin, you might be interested to know that this post showed up on Marly’s blog. This coming from probably one of the least techy people on the planet! I hope it can be resolved for all the bloggers out there but I know these things take time! It’s a big reason I don’t have a lot of interest in being too smart when it comes to technology issues! Good luck! Cherie in WI
Just fyi, yours is the first blog that's shown up on my feed for days. I agree, it's very laborious to go in search of all the missing posts, but I hope your appearance means they're working on the issue.
I am so tech un-savvy, I don’t even know if I have a reading list. I just have the “blogs I follow” on my blog. You were speaking Greek to me 😢
Your’s and Saundra’s are the only blog updates I have gotten in about a week.
Is blogger messing with us so they can eliminate this platform? I love blogging and would hate to see it go away.
Thanks for trying to explain this issue and trying to find a fix. Keep us posted if you figure anything out.
That is frustrating. I don't have that problem but who knows when it might occur. When I look at my main page of my blog and click on reading list I can then click at the top of the page on "blogs I follow". I can then scroll the list and click on any I want to read.
Well as they say misery loves company. I’m glad and relieved to read your post as I have also been having the same problem. Thought it was just me but somehow found the report a problem option and was told the old we are aware of the problem blah blah. I have enjoyed the blogs for a long time and will continue plodding along hoping blogger will fix things.
I have to follow each one individually and it gives me, not the latest, but the one at the time of the breakdown. Endless clicking to find the most recent. I hope they fix it.
Many people are using Feedly to follow blogs, even before the issues with the Blogger news reader.
I wish you all the best.
Just to let you know your blog post showed up on my reading list this evening. Your post, and Rugs and Pugs. Was happy to see them and read your post. I wish blogger would fix the problem. Hopefully this is a good sign. Yes, Saundra's post had updated on mine to.
I finally received just your post and Lauren's this morning as I too was having the same problem. I am not tech savvy and am just frustrated with this. I sure hope Blogger fixes their issue. Its bad enough most Bloggers no longer post. Dont want to lose more. Janice
I get emails from blogs I follow and I got notified that you had a new post
Thanks to you I was and still am, albeit maybe temporary, able to update my blog by doing the feedburner refresh. Not once but numerous times per visit. Then would go to Rugs and Pugs to see if my newer post showed up on her blog. If it hadn't, then I'd go to feedburner and do the numerous refreshes all over again. The task may run into the next morning when I'm on the PC and eventually my newer post would show up.
I shared this info with Lauren but she hasn't had good luck. Don't know if she is doing as many refreshes as I did or what her situation may be but hope google/blogger fixes this issue
Robin your post here is the only updated blog on my reading list. I've not had any new ones for 5-6 days - that I started noticing. Linda told me about the problem and now I read we all have them. I don't want to not blog, I'll miss it. However, you can't teach an old dog...true for me! I liked this format. I did notice....did any of you have a huge spike in views - I was like, I didn't even post anything....maybe blogger was hacked or something. I too have clicked on my reader list and manually clicked on faithful bloggers I follow. Ony Robin's post is new on my reading list without clicking on this one. So frustrating....
Hi love, sorry to hear your tale of woe. I haven't been blogging recently, way too much going on, but I must rectify that. I have been procrastinating and I have been lazy. I must pull my socks up, as like you I do value my close blogging chums.
Go to your blogger Dasboard. Layout. Right sidebar listing -Add A Gadget. Scroll down to Blog List, choose Recent posts, choose 5 or 10, icon or more of the blog, save. Your blog reading list shows up in order of new posts at bottom right sidebar to click on. Your label gadget is really long so maybe move that one to the bottom. Even if 5 or 10 are shown, click on show all ..... boom.
