A New Year

In between the storms this past week, I bundled Snowdog, herded the cats and headed to my quiet place.

I wasn't here to hear the lake make ice this year.
I missed her other-worldly moans as she surrendered to winter's bitter caress.

She could not wait for me.

She is asleep now, her secrets safe as dreams

The snows have since stopped; it was brutal cold that saw the new year in.

I wish you all a new year ahead filled blessings, joys, magic, and miracles...and a measure of good madness.

(Is it just me or do you hesitate calling the new year "2022"?  It scares the dickens out of me as it sounds like "2020 too" ya know?)

You have such a poetic way of writing so even without pictures you can see it in your mind. You, my dear should do a book. All you have to do is go thru your blog posts and see what you wrote to submit them.
Snowdog is so handsome.
OMG, hiss hiss, I never thought of that 2020 too thing until you showed it here and now that will be a black thought as I go thru the year and scares the dickens out of me too.

How absolutely lovely. Oh, but you may hear the ice pushing and cracking trying to expand. Snow dog looks very happy to be there and to be able to survey his domain. I have had several people point out that 2022 sounds like that. We do not need a redo of that year. We have been unusually warm, rainy and foggy. We haven't seen the sun in days and days. It is becoming very old. I would prefer a nice big snow with the sun shining for days after. But in light of the weather this country is experiencing we are ok. The nicest thing is the heating bill has been a little easier to take.
I hope this new year finds you rested, healthy and joyful.
Happy New Year
Cathy

Your pictures are beautiful ! And Snow dog must love it there !
We have had gloomy , misty , dreary days lately . The snow we got Cmas Eve is gone , today was 50 degrees , just very strange for New England .
Funny how 2022 does sound like "2020 too" Lets hope for a Happy , Healthy 2022 !!!

How poetic and observant you are. Now that you mentioned it, 2022 sounds like 2020 too.
A scary thought.

Snowdog looks so handsome there in the snow.
Being by the frozen lake looks so restful with a fresh coat of snow. Your photography is lovely.

I wonder what secret is hidden in 2022.

Wishing you peace and contentment in the new year, may all your good dreams come true with an extra measure of blessings.
Hugs, Julia

I love the way you write. So calming and magical. I wish you all the best in this 2022 that sounds like 2020 too! Ha! Let's hope it's not anything like the year that won't be mentioned and not like the one we just left either! Happy New Year in Nod Robin! Stay safe and warm!

If my boots were tall enough and my coat warm enough, I would like to follow the footprints just to see where they lead. I love the pictures, especially of your canine friend. I have had the same thoughts about 2022. Let's not refer to it as such.

Whatever is to come will do so and I can't stop it. I can only be right in my heart :-) We too have had severe cold. Keep warm and well & here's wishing you a blessed new year no matter the number 💖

Oh no, I didn't even realize how 2022 sounds like 2020 redux. With Omicron, we may indeed be facing some repeats of lockdowns. What beautiful photos you have taken. I read a book once about a woman who lived alone in an Ozarks cabin, and she described when the lake would make ice, and how dangerous it would be to be out on the water at that time, and the sounds that heralded the moment. It impressed me just to read of it perhaps 35 years ago; how amazing that you've experienced this in icy Nod. I am glad Snowdog was with you on your walk.

Such beautiful pictures...but of course the one of Snowdog captured my heart.
May you find peace at the lake and may your batteries recharge.
Happy New Year.

Wonderful photos
I'm close to Lake Erie but it hasn't frozen over in a very long time
I am fascinated by the sound of a lake freezing, thank you for sharing, it never would have occurred to me
the sound of 2020-2 bothers me as well,
well onward and upward they say

I can’t even imagine all of that snow. You could wear shorts here up until today. The weather has now dropped into the 40s. All of that snow and ice is beautiful, but I will just admire from afar. Happy New Year!!

I have thought the same thing about 2022 as well. I am very careful this year. My late brother in law always would say, "It is what it is." That is how I feel about this year.
I have never felt like this as a new year comes in.
So I need to be positive about all of the little things.
I hope you have a wonderful week. I love how you talked about the lake. That is awesome.
I will send you my blessings in spite of it being 2022. :)
