The Best Laid Plans of Mice and (Wo)Men

I am out of practice with all things social.

Hermitage does that.

Yet, in anticipation of welcoming a new little crow to the nest, I came out of hiding and attempted to plan a baby shower (emphasis on attempted).  (And you were wondering where I was?)

I surrendered early on and enlisted the magic of my friend Mel (from Back Forty) who brought the whole thing to life.

{Setup photo - the "clouds" had fairy lights in them that were lit on the day of the shower.}

{Centerpieces by Mom-to-be....}

Invites - check; decorations - check; centerpieces - check; food/cake - check.

But, so much for plans.

Enter the Mouse:
{Mia on her way from delivery to NICU}

...The newest member of the Crow family - our little changeling, Mia.

She arrived - all 3lbs. 12oz. of her  - 8 weeks early...and one week and one day before her momma's baby shower.

She is still in the NICU and will be for some time, but is making great progress.
While she is still on a feeding tube, she can now maintain her own body heat and breathe on her own without a ventilator or oxygen.  She has also started to gain weight and, as of today, weighs 3 lbs. 14.9oz.

She has a long journey ahead, but I am sure that corner of my heart she stole when I first laid eyes on her will only grow in the days and years to come.

Sometimes, it's the littlest things that take up the biggest corners of your heart.

Babies have a way of upsetting the most organised plans! Mia is lovely.
My great-grandson was 8 weeks early but is now a strapping 8-year-old, the days of tubes far behind him.

What an awesome job Mel did in decorating.
Mini Mia is beautiful and am so happy to hear she has gained weight and breathing on her own. In her last photo she doesn't appear to be in distress so am praying that is a good sign and hope to you. Will continue prayers for the wee one.

What a Beautiful , precious little bundle of joy !!!! My 4 year old Twin grand daughters were born even earlier & were in the NICU for 3 months ....just the most incredible , amazing place ....Your sweet Mia will be a little miracle like my twins . She will grow strong and be an amazing little girl .
There was an old man who came to the NICU one day a week , he cuddled the babies and sang to them , he told them stories , it was very moving. Some of those little angels were so sick and no parents to hold them & love them , that was heart breaking . Your little Mia & my twins are so lucky to have us in their lives ..... Enjoy every minute you can with her !!! The most Wonderful Gift .....

Congratulations one and all and welcome to the world little Mia! I'm sending good wishes and prayers for continued growth and health. I had a preemie with my first born. That was 47yrs ago and only weighing in at 2# it's a miracle he made it without having CP. So Mia will do well with all the new technology and love from you all. She's so darn cute too! Hugs and smiles Robin!
