Monday in Nod

The current view outside my window invites a bleakness of spirit.

Another 10+" of snow fell overnight and it is snowing still.

I know it won't stay long, yet that is of little comfort as it seems that any snow this time of year, no matter how soon it melts, is more wearisome than during winter proper.
The cold reaches deeper, the wind bites harder and, at least for some, sleep beckons more insistently.

{Liza Bean}

Since I had no intentions of venturing out, I baked a boule of artisan sourdough wheat bread.
Thinking it's going to be another soup night.

While the bread was baking, I pulled the last stitches in my Easter stitch.  This is He Is Risen - a design by Jenny Hoffman (Country Rustic Primitives).

This evening I will return to my hooking on "Early Bird" by Lori Brechlin of Notforgotten Farm.
(Sorry for the crappy photo...I was too lazy to take it off my frame to photograph...some Mondays are like that.)

And then, later, of course, I will lose some hours with a book.  This is one I just finished:

I had previously read and posted about Ms. Setterfield's "Once Upon a River" (you can check that out here) and loved it, so I had to read another of her books.
I was equally enthralled.
It's hard to condense this rich book in a few sentences, other than to say it is a haunting story, beautifully and magically written.
It begins with a young William Bellman shooting a rook with his slingshot...and the turns his life takes after.
A little bit of Dickens...a little bit of Poe...a lot of wonderful.

And, finally, a Mia update for those of you who inquired.
Mia came home from the NICU sooner than anyone anticipated.
Unfortunately, however, after a few days at home, she was struggling to breathe and had stopped eating, so ended up in the ER and a brief stint back in the NICU.
She is once again home and, once again, doing well. Thanks to everyone who prayed, and who wished her well.

And that's a Monday in Nod.

Thank you for the update on little MIA. Oh my, it looks like she growing fast. I'm still remembering her in my daily prayers and I have high hopes that she will thrive.

Your cross stitch is lovely and that Artisan bread is looking mighty tasty. I love the wheat decor on it. Very artsy...

Sorry about another round of snow. Here, the herd of deers has already chewed up my remaining tulips and we are on flood watch already. I spent a great amount of my time putting things higher in the basement hoping it won't be too bad.

With all the snow cover you had, I bet your perennials will be spectacular this year. Hang in there my friend.
Hugs, Julia

Oh that sour dough bread looks marvelous. The Easter stitched piece is lovely and am sure your Early Bird rug will soon be on its way to the finish line.
I used to be an avid reader. Then I was an avid knitter, dollmaker,.. you get the idea. OMG, that typewriter is the very one I learned to type on in high school.
Am please to learn wee Mia is doing well and she appears to be quite comfortable in her slumber.

Well Mia is just adorable. So glad she is back home once again. We had rain, sleet and snow today, but no 10+ inches of the dreaded white stuff, however I fear my daffodils that just started blooming will die now. What a great cross stitch piece for Easter and I so love early bird too. Glad you got your mojo back in the hooking department. Janice

Your darling little Mia is precious. I love her name. I hope she continues to do well. Not more snow! It's springtime, you know. Now I am wondering where to heck Nod is. Your snow day surely was a productive one. What could be better than a savory soup with a slice of sourdough bread, a bit of stitching (which I love) and a good book? Happy spring! :~/

I think Mondays should be abolished - they're good to neither man nor beast.

Glad to see that Mia is making progress. There will be hiccoughs along the way, but that's life.

My gosh she is so sweet. Sorry she had to go back in the hospital.
I will have to check out that author. I have a stack right now that needs to be read.
That bread looks so delicious I could eat soup any time.
You certainly have been busy creating.i am so sorry about the snow it is soul crushing this time of year.

Thank you for the book recommend! I’ve put a hold on one now. Mia is sweet sweet. May her body work out the kinks so to speak and may she grow to be a healthy wise woman 🙏🏻
I like both your handiworks. My hubby is the sourdough starter king and his breads look like yours. I made Sally Lunn bread last week; it was terrific and no-knead. Though I do like to knead. Our city has very little snow left. If we had a freak storm I think I’d cry.

I always love a good spring snowstorm (but we don't get 1/10th the snow of Nod) because I know it won't last.
Your bread looks amazing. I have never in my life baked bread...not even frozen stuff that just has to be popped in to the oven.
Early Bird is looking good. It looks like you are on the home stretch.
I was going to ask about Mia. I know the road to hell is paved with honorable intentions...sigh. So sorry to hear of her issues, but happy to hear she is back home and doing well!!!

So glad Mia is doing well now, look at her dear little sleepy face. She is such a blessing. Sorry you're still suffering cold and snowy weather, I know it looks pretty but it can get you down after a while. You must have large food stores to live well through all this Wintry weather.

Brava for Mia ~ evidently she is a spunky little one. May she flourish. Love
your stitched piece .. wish I had seen it sooner...for Lent I started the Head of Christ with threads so close in hue and in confetti stitch that my head was
spinning...still stitching/paying my Lenten dues...but I shall prevail and will then do your "Risen" next year. O that I could send some of this sunshine your
way, Robin. You certainly do not allow cocooning to go for naught.. I can sense
your bread's aroma from here. May the warmth of Springtime be upon you very soon.

Snow this late is not fun, we are getting more rain this month, but always needed. Those are both beautiful pieces that you are working on. Sending prayers for Mia and hopefully she will thrive in the coming days.

I missed this post! That snow would make me cry but we're getting snow today..just flakes with the rain but it has kept me inside with no desire to walk with Annabelle...she's not happy about that! That book sounds really good and that bread looks amazing! My friend and her hubby have a home bakery that they make tons of sourdough breads and sweet treats too. They take orders and deliver every Saturday. They make a killing! Of course I help by buying the bread! Ha! Have a good week and hopefully the snow will melt. Little Mia is beautiful! I'm glad she's home doing well!

Thank you for the Mia photo and update, thankful she is now doing well.

The snow for that long (anything more than 15 minutes) would really irritate me, but oh that view of peace. I so wish I could look out and see nothing but nature. Simple, complicated, groomed, messy, green, brown, so much better than people.

Oh that beautiful bread.
