Something Lauren Said...and Something Saundra Said....

Ok....I just couldn't resist....and Saundra started it LOL.

In her post on Friday, Saundra mentioned something that Lauren (from Rugs and Pugs) said....and well, that got me thinking about other things Lauren said.

{My Halloween Kitchen Tree}

You can relax Lauren....I won't repeat those things.  😜

Ok...seriously now....  We were talking about Halloween decorations and how I had totes and totes, and if I were to decorate this year, I should get to it.
Lauren said I should post photos when I did and I said that I don't change things up much from year to year.... I have decorations that I love and they usually go in the same place every year and I was pretty sure people had pretty much seen everything I have already.
Lauren replied that I should do it anyway because if most people were like her, they likely wouldn't remember.

Well, I am off to a late start - I usually like to have things done by the first of October so I have at least a whole month to enjoy it while I watch spooky shows and read scary books.  (Or is watch scary shows and read spooky books???)  But I have made a start and thought, in honor of Lauren, I would share some of what has gone up so far.
(And if you aren't like Lauren...and me...and do remember seeing these before, just skip over this post please LOL...and please don't take offense that we assumed you had forgotten.)  😉

One of the first things to go up is my collection of vintage papier mache jack-o-lantern lanterns.  Yes, they actually put candles in these and lit them....that's why not many survived...and why it is rare to find them with the tissue face inserts in tact.  I do put battery operated tea lights in many/most of them so they light up at night.

Of course there are many repros done now, but I like the old.  (If you are interested in knowing how to tell a repro from the real deal, I did a post about it several years ago....I think.)

{I also have a rare black cat one which went MIA during WWR...and it hasn't been located even yet. Makes me sick.}

Some mini papier mache jacks in a mini pie safe:

Usually the next thing that goes up is my witch's apothecary:

I think the rest of the photos are pretty self-explanatory, so I'll spare you the narrative.

{Fresh bittersweet!!!}

{In my laundry room}

{Also in the laundry room....The embalming fluid crate and the undertaker sign in the picture with the papier mache Jack-o-Lanterns came from the same undertaker's estate.  The tins to the right are old "Shadowland Candy" tins.... I LOVE them, but they're not easy to find.}

{I have a little strand of rice lights wound in and about the shoes that light up at night.}

That's it for now....a start.  I hope to be able to finish up the inside this week and hope the ground isn't too frozen to do some of what I usually do outside.  If you didn't get too glassy-eyed with all the photos, I will post more if/when I get it up.

AND...if you've made it this far (Saundra?) and were wondering what it was Saundra said well what she said was what she said she said to Lauren....which was that she had never hooked and stuffed a pumpkin.

And I was tickled to finally be able to say I have done something she hasn't LOL.

Somewhat pathetic and certainly not even remotely in the same class as Lauren's hooked pumpkins, but in my defense, he was hooked years and years ago LOL.

Kind of anti-climatic, eh?

Stay well and safe my friends.

PS:  In previous posts I have gotten several comments and/or questions to which I have not been able to respond because the person asking the question is a "no reply" blogger.  Obviously, it's your choice to be "no reply," but just thought I'd mention it in case you were wondering why you haven't heard from me.  The names that I am recalling now as "no reply" are:  Winnie, Susan Hemann (although I do have your email Susan), Constance (Mystic Woos Primitives), Heritage Hall, and Nicki.  Also, Catherine ("diamondc") - I am not able to respond to you either, but not because you are no reply.  I get an mail failure message??  My apologies.....

I love the apothecary cupboard, how great is that, wish I could see things closer. I wonder if I could find some interesting looking things that I could bottle.

We do not celebrate Halloween, we used too.
I enjoy seeing what others are doing in decorating for Halloween, I still like seeing all the lovely decorating some people do.
Your decorating in stunning, I love all of your pumpkin collections.
Your hooked Pumpkin is amazing, I do have pumpkins out for the harvest and Thanksgiving season.
Thank-you for sharing your beautiful decorating.
I am not sure why you cannot get through, I have had so many email fails and people trying to leave comments, this I do not understand, so sorry.
Have a lovely week.

wonderful decorations, love the embalmers' box!! I got all my fall and Halloween decorations down. Three weeks later they were still sitting in the boxes. I put them away. I love Halloween but I'm just not in the frame of mind this year. Such a bummer

Enjoyed the post very much and don't remember ever seeing them, guess I wasn't aware of your blog until the last several months. Am very envious of your vintage Jack-o-lantern collection, I don't own one except for the one I made myself. Many decorations I love but wonder how old that doll w/cat head is. Is it an aged modern doll or an antique? Love it!!!!! Your hooked Jack is wonderful too.

Oh Robin, I am so glad you shared. I have never seen anything about your collections before. So interesting to look at. I love your apothecary cupboard and how everything just looks perfect.
I do have a thing about witches shoes and hats.
In your very first picture you have that Daisy Churn. I spent many hours turning the handle on those to make butter for my Mom to sell to her customers. I love what you have done with it, was that acorns?
I love your pumpkin too. I have never made a pumpkin like that before.
I do hope you find your black cat. Did you loose it during the remodel?
I love your chests and all of your boxes and jars. What fun to make.
Thank you so much for sharing. I hope you have a lovely week.

Your post had me bug eyed looking at your “to die for stuff”! Oh man, what I would give to have the mortuary items! And the baby shoes on the penny mat! Thank you so much for sharing! Please do more 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Don't ever second guess on posting your Halloween collections - besides bad memory, there are also new readers. And those of us who simply enjoy other peoples collections and displays because for whatever reason don't have our own. Even displays posted repeatedly, I still seem to see new details every time. Too bad about the missing cat - what was WWR?

about the no reply - it look a long time following the fixes with no success, to find that if I was commenting using name/url option (used at work so I didn't mix personal and work accounts) I was no reply. Commenting at home using google account - no problem. It's one more thing commenters can check if they are no-reply.

SO HAPPY you didn't repeat "those things"!!!
I am so jealous. You have THE MOST WONDERFUL Halloween stuff and know how to stage it just perfectly. I have a number of mache jacks, but you have so many more :( I am just drooling over all the pictures.
Your hooked pumpkin is oh so sweet. I have that same pumpkin with witch's hat that you have in your laundry room.
Did I mention how jealous I am? Good thing I don't live close to you because just maybe more things would go missing.

Never,(no not EVER!) do I tire of viewing your collections and the stunning way in which you 'set' each and every piece in place - alone or as a vignette. You have a remarkable gift for visual story-telling. BRAVO!

ps more pictures please :-)

Robin, I rewrote my last blog post on going to estate sales, titled The Walker and the Wheelchair. They are printing it in our local magazine. I added details about local estate sales that I thought people might want to know, since I had to gear it to local history. I think it's better now ! I doubt I have five regular readers, but when some posts get in the google search engine, more people find it, when looking for a specific topic such as sugar chests or Eastlake furniture. I am happy with five! Marshel at Bamaplanter.blogspot.com Email GoneToAlabama@aol.com

I found your blog from Acorn Hollow and I just love your Halloween decor! You
are a kindred spirit I think! My brother lives in Wisconsin also and they have had their first snowfall. I think your place is amazing and the way you display your treasures is great. I'll be back! Have a great week!
